Nicole Slatter - Drift

Drift is an exploration into painted representational space. It examines the expectation and potential of spaces within the urban environment. The paintings cast the viewer as participant within a familiar scene and witness to a singular moment within a daily experience. Composition and paint application simplify and amplify physical and remembered experiences of spaces.

Frances Blythe - Eclipse

An eclipse does not solely veil or obliterate an object or light-source – certain objects pushed into the background allow other, previously unseen, objects to be revealed; and shapes and shadows mutate as the light source changes. These new works explore what is hidden and what is revealed by the layering of paint, focusing particularly on the transparent and opaque qualities of layers of white paint in an image, below, between and above other layers.

Two nationally and internationally acclaimed ceramic artists who derive much of their inspiration from the landscape bring us their latest work. Both enjoy a reputation for the highly individualistic nature of their art and have decades of successful experience behind them.

In this exhibition they demonstrate how two artists working in the same medium, with similar themes, manage to produce strikingly different outcomes. With a healthy post-modernist contempt for convention, they demonstrate what a powerful medium ceramics can be in the hands of such accomplished practitioners.
